'“gratitude, when practiced daily, can change your life.”

ahhh, thank you so much!

jess simms, a peloton trainer, had started saying that phrase at the end of her workouts and it really impressed me. it’s an interesting way to feel, but being grateful, wow. i am so grateful. i do complain, and sometimes wonder why bad things happen to me. but all in all, when i step back and give myself some space, the gratitude comes.

those that know me well, know that i always aim to strive for more. i always want to be better. i know that i do not know everything and i do not always come correct. but, with time, i find that things become clear and i have the ability to be grateful. the last time i wrote here, i sensed that folks were feeling that i was down and out. acceptance doesn’t mean giving up or quitting. it means, i see ‘the move’ and i respond with ‘my move’. yes, the shop is struggling in the wake of the pandemic and the new world we are daily traversing. yes, i have accepted that this is the new way. now we make space for something new and exciting. dare i say better?

ahhh, thank you so much!

with thanksgiving around the corner, i guess this post is quite timely. in october we focus on gratitude, but we should do it daily. we should practice saying thank you as many times as we can. we should practice gratitude everyday, in the smallest ways and the largest ways. yes, i was feeling the weight of my 46 years of living in august when i wrote about acceptance, and now, i look back at that entry and i am grateful that i could share that insight. i’m grateful for this platform (even though i heard blogs are out) because i can openly spew my ramblings and i know somewhere, out there, someone may relate.

how are you practicing being grateful? have you ever tried gratitude? this week, today even, try being grateful and express it openly. if you can keep it up for a week, i promise, you’ll feel different about yourself and those you surround yourself with. it can change your life. it really can.

✌🏾

p.s.

if you are a peloton user, i recommend trying the flash 15 with jess simms. quick, sweaty and efficient. thank you jess!

i’m not really in the mood for introductions and ‘get to know me’ type talk. if you know about our shop, you might know about this blog. this blog, yipes. if you know about this shop you might also NOT know about the blog. it’s like a thorn, not in my side, just there. thorn. looking thorny and useless. i’m hoping that writing again will turn the thorn into something nice like, i don’t know, a flower or a cookie or something calm-ish.

this space is calm

leah and i signed up for a 4 month business course and one of the items i must complete is to spend 90 mins a week on my business and all the things that my business entails. i have taken it on to also, during this 90 min session, write here. i love to read and sometimes i dream of writing. i’m not sure I have what it takes to be a legitimate writer, but the internet and this platform make me feel like i may have a little something?

when we first opened 14 years ago i was diligent with the writing and i did some decent work (i wrote an opinion piece on george zimmerman that i was really proud of. it’s lost now. thanks wordpress 😐). then life, kids, stuff started taking up the time. i began to slow down with the writing and then every once in a while, i would come back to it. this course, i’m hoping, will help me maintain the writing and in turn, boost me somehow? who knows…

bathroom selfie from the past when i may have been boosted, by youth…

so I’m gong to be here once a week, chronicling my limp digital life (and actual life as well). there is the hope that i could be growing something helpful, useful and maybe a little supportive? i mean, i won’t know if anyone will read this or will care, but i can at least start. if you do read this, please drop me a line, let me know you exist. it would be really nice to know that i’m not just writing into the abyss. tbh, i should be working on taxes right now and then making a video… should i post those here? …i dunno.

these sunday posts are going to be just like this, random thoughts that rattle in my brain. not fully edited thoughts and concerns, probably some weird judgements and ideals that only make sense to me but i think that’s the point? this post is a sorry excuse for an introduction but boom! have a good week, and…. that is all.

Halloween

hall1.jpeg

I love candy, and I’ve been eating it regularly for the past few weeks. Sugar is my weakness. I love just about anything sweet and halloween is the perfect excuse to feed my vice. I have never really participated in this season and it’s funny how my children view this time of year. They have only trick or treated twice and I think they really liked it! I’m not sure what’s in store this year as covid-19 has upended everything!

I wonder about so many aspects of our lives we don’t question until we are faced with it directly. Door to door, receiving items from strangers doesn’t seem to go hand in hand with our local pandemic rules. I’ve heard of people putting out a large bowl of treats on their front step and letting the kids take as they wish, at any rate they wish. Some say this is lazy, others say, you miss out on the cute costumes when you just place out the candy like a dish or dog food. Here! Take whatever you want!

If no one can go door to door, and no one can really make contact, will tricking or treating still happen?

Well as far as I am concerned, it doesn’t matter what corona decides to do with this North American experience. I’m stocked up on twix and gummies! I’m straight!

TEN YEARS! Whoo-hoo! My fist thought, is I’m so happy we made it here! There were a few times during this journey I thought I wouldn’t be able to see the light but here I am! Here we are! Many changes have happened to our little hop from that first February in 2010 to now!

We started out with 4 cutting chairs and now have grown to 8. We started out with an vision for eco awareness and now are trendsetting in this area. We hope that through all of the changes, you our valued client, still gets the same great feeling when you come to our shop for a service.

During these ten years, I have grown so much and have developed so much as a business owner and I hope the education I have taken up to this point will allow me to be able to still be here for ten more years. I’d like to thank each and every staff member of the team from then to now. All of your efforts have brought us here. All of my clients that followed me from Society and the new ones I found from being on Academy, Thank you!

Outdoor Running

abigail-keenan-HfBZFnHgVKo-unsplash.jpg

Winter running! Do you do it? I personally enjoy running outside in the winter. Everyone assumes that it is dangerous and alarmingly cold, but you would be surprised. First of all, you get quite warm as you run and your temperature regulates quite fast. I recommend running outside for at least 3 miles/5k. Anything less makes it really hard to warm up..

I have a particular running uniform and it does include a jacket with reflective trim because I run first thing in the morning, and in the colder months, the sun has not yet come up. I wear cold gear running pants, long sleeve cold gear shirt, t-shirt over top, a hoodie, and my reflective wind breaking jacket on top. I wear a belaclava and 2 hoods. On my hands, I use gloves instead of mittens, and I have cold gear socks as well. I know a lot of people that use the running clips on their shoes for more grip, but I have never had a problem. If it looks icy, don’t run fast. On days when there is too much snow, I run on the road. Just be sure to run INTO traffic as some drivers still text and drive.

The air is so fresh when you run in the winter and I find that the cold air really invigorates me. Make sure you lotion up well and be prepared for frozen lashes, nostrils and fogged up glasses. If you are thinking of trying some outdoor running this season, make sure you have a route mapped out and you are prepared for anything. As you get more comfortable, you’ll be able to go further and further. Something you may try this new year? Yes?
