THE LAKE 05+06+2010+cute+skona-hem-white-cottageSummer is in full swing right about now and I'm sure many of you have been enjoying lake life.  I would LOVE to have a cabin but I don't love the responsibility of a cabin.  Next year I'm going to rent a cabin for a week and get my fair share of lake life.

uwharrie mountains009004I'm excited for lazy breakfasts and even lazier lunches.  I'm excited for the water and the coolness and calmness she brings.  I'm excited for the quiet that comes from being in a remote place.  I'm excited for the real brightness of the stars and the moon.  I could go on...  I'm also excited to expose my chicks to lake life and the great outdoors.

White-Cottage-1Do you have a cabin or spend your summers away somewhere?  Where do you go? What do you like about lake life?  Any tips for a newbie like me? I'd love to hear how you spend your lake weekends.  That's the fresh perspective...

PRODUCT REVIEW Compressed towel tablets

tabs_1024x1024

towels_1024x1024

I love these towels!  As a mother of young ones, I need to have a handy wipe around at all times.  Prospector Co, a line we carry at the shop, has these great towel tablets.  You get six in a jar and all you need to do is add water.  The tablets turn into wipes that you can use on faces, hands, and genteel parts.  Because you just add water,  you don't have to worry about any of the chemicals that can be present in many over-the-counter wipes.

It's too bad that you only get six in a jar but I like to think that being able to reuse this cute 2 oz. jar makes up for it. ( I have three already...)  Also, because it's a 2 oz. jar, it can fit almost anywhere!  To be fair you don't need to have kids to get this product, it's handy, and works really well.  That's the fresh perspective...

In the mean time Right on, baby Right on Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong Oh, but who are they to judge us Simply because our hair is long Oh, you know we've got to find a way To bring some understanding here today Oh

Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me So you can see What's going on Ya, what's going on Tell me what's going on I'll tell you what's going on - Uh Right on baby Right on baby

Long, Long, Long braided+hair Many of us have, at one point or another, tried to grow out our hairs.  We've all said it, "I want to grow it long, I want to be able to pull it up for the summer."  Between the explosion of the 'sock bun of 2012' and the new resurgence of the braid, many of us are desperately trying to get our lengths as lengthy as possible.

Chunky-Blonde-Highlight

There's no secret to it.  Just don't cut it.  It'll grow, it'll be long and luscious in NO TIME.  If you're going to go this route make sure you are not hot styling your hair regularly.  (If you are using up to two hot tools every time you wash and style, you won't be able to get any decent length because you'll need to be getting regular trims.)  Regular trims will keep your hair at the same length.  You're basically trimming off what has grown.

6149553592_d747559232_oEven if you are using the best products to protect your hair from the heat, you'll need to get regular trims so your ends won't split.  If you can set aside some time to let your hair air dry, or even style it without heat you'll be surprised how fast your length will come.  For those of you who are addicted to hot tools maybe cutting down their use will help develop some length.  I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'... HERE COMES THE SUN summer1A friend and I read an interesting fact about the sun and your hair.  According to Allure, 100 hours of direct sunlight on your hair is as damaging as having straight bleach on it for 30 minutes.  What?! Can you believe that?  When you really think about it, your skin gets darker in the sun so of course it can affect your hair!

Here are a few tips to protect your locks from the sun:

-try to use products with UV protectors.

-in a pinch, a little sunscreen mixed with water can be sprayed in for extra protection.

-cover it up!  Scarves and hats are quite functional and fashionable.

SONY DSC-make sure you clarify every now and again.  A clarifyer will strip your hair of environmental build up and product build up.  Once clarified, give yourself a treatment to replace the moisture you've washed out.

-braid it up and away!  Braids are the hottest trend right now and will expose less of your hair to the sun.

Summer-plaits-cropIt doesn't take long to check the ingredients on the products you buy.  Purchasing from a salon will allow you to dialogue with your stylist and he or she can steer you in the right direction.  If you're the type that spends ALL summer in the sun, get yourself some protection!  That's all I need to say, that's the fresh perspective...
