new-year-res-4Happy New Year jokers!!  As per usual, everyone has a subconscious list of all the things they would like to do better in the new year.  We all have an internal collection of the things we didn't accomplish and want another crack at.  Is that bad?  I don't think so...

Start-again-new-beginning-picture-quoteIt's the same type of feeling you have when you wake up in the morning.  It's a new beginning, it's a fresh start.  Yesterday you didn't get the laundry done.  Today, you will.  Just a part of being human.  I have heard so many people say, "why wait till the new year to try to be better?", "new years resolutions suck, and are stupid.  be better all year round...".  Really??

tumblr_mysfyskeRe1sg08xxo1_500I can't say I totally agree because I think it's in our innate nature to 'want'...  We want more money, more time, more, everything.  Just like I said before, whenever I wake up, the new day (and the new sun) makes me think of a list of things that I would like to accomplish.  Even if it just the laundry, I'm positive that those types of small goals are just as life changing as the big ones we make on the first of every January.

Holiday Traditions

tumblr_lbcfssPGaz1qdv8q2o1_500Got any family traditions that are coming up?  Anything that a lot of you, or a few of you, get into in December?  I have two small kids that are at the age of actually remembering experiences.  This holiday we will attempt to take the bus (again), go sledding, go skating, and last but not least, go to the Nutcracker.

As they get older, I'll see what we keep and what we ditch.  Taking the bus, in my opinion, is pretty fun.  We take it to the University of Manitoba, and when we get there we run around the snowy fields and throw snow and make snow angels (last year, my youngest sat in the snow and cried while my other daughter and I did all that fun stuff).  I think it's something that they should experience instead of being driven around all the time by me...

tumblr_mahz5tQzpP1r2uon8o1_500At the shop we've kept the tradition of stockings going for the third year in a row.  Starting December first, we put up stockings and all of us fill them till our last shift at work.  On the last day, we open them up and laugh, and cry, and laugh.  It's the best.  We do take the Holidays off and this time spent to make memories and be together is very important for me.  I hope all of the clients that patronize us aren't too inconvenienced by our break, but all of you should know that we are so grateful for each and everyone of you that choose Freshair Boutique to be your salon!

THE TIME OF MY LIFE 20090418020521

Why do you think you were put on this earth?  Why do you think we exist?  Many people feel like there is more to our lives, or even an after-life.  A place where, all of a sudden, things make sense.  But while we're going through the motions, why don't we spend more time thinking about the time we are spending now and the life we are given now.

Maybe there is some sense made of life after we die, but we need to shift gears and focus on what we know, what we can see, and what our lives mean now.  Life is too short.          It just is.

WHAT A TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE Time for some light reading.

I've been cutting hair for over ten years and have realized so much about myself and humans in general.  My job consists of so much talking, and laughing, and chatting, and laughing, and consulting and sighing and laughing...  You get my drift...

Whenever ladies (and gents) come in to the shop they are bound to ask how you are.  "How's your life?" "How are your children?"  "How's business?"  I tell them just exactly how I feel.  I have no shame in my chatting game.  I speak up and I speak out.  Always.  Is that a good thing?  Not necessarily...  Not everyone wants to hear what I have to say and not everyone wants to know the truth.

Sometimes folks ask, "how are you?" because it's just a phrase kind humans say.  They don't actually care what you say or want to know how you really feel.  I fall into that rut as well.  "How was work?" is my fave question, but I already have five more on deck as soon as they answer.  I know my problem is that I have a lot on/in my mind and I try to get it out in the hour that my client has paid me for.  Good?  Bad? I'm not sure...

Why do we love going to the salon so much?  Well.  We love that our hair will look nice at the end and our nails will be nicely manicured.  We love that our stylist is fashionable and sweet, we love that the shop we frequent isn't a dive.  We love a lot about the hair salon, but lets say it- WE LOVE TO CHAT/CATCH-UP!  I love to do those things and sometimes I think that I may say too much.

When I go off about my husband/family members I'm doing so to vent and to release some tension.  I speak about my everyday life and sometimes I don't take any prisoners.  I say a lot.  Maybe I say too much (I know I do say too much... I know).  Sometimes I'm honest and I may say some things that sound harsh and mean.  I'm not mean, a bit harsh, but not mean.  Then I realize that what I say might sound mean to some people.  Ahhhhh....words.

Who knew talking could be so therapeutic and yet so damaging?  The words we use everyday can change the way people experience life.  The words we use everyday are amazing and powerful.  We need to take more ownership of the words we use everyday.
