Get ready for it!

protect yourself

We’re here! We made it to June! As most of us know, Winnipeg is heading for a pure and certain heat wave. It’s looking like nothing but 30’s and up from here on out. I’m here for it because I love the heat! But even me, sun worshipper number 1, is aware of it’s dangers.

dehydration will set in…

Hydration is the name of the game here folks! For healthy hair, skin and nails, we need water first. *Consuming a proper amount of water daily will help keep your hair skin and nails balanced with moisture as well as keep you cool! I would call this the first step. Keep hydrated with water and you’re already doing more than you know

I use spf on my skin and I’m sure to apply cuticle oil to my nails as much as I can. I have a bottle in my office and one in my car. At red lights, my cuticles get some love! Honestly, if I don’t have a few bottles of cuticle oil kicking around, I would never use it! When it comes to my hair it’s a little bit tricky because I can’t always wear a hat. (sometimes the afro is really poppin off and nothing can hold it down) All of that to say, the best way to protect your hair from the sun is to cover it up. Wear a hat! If you can’t cover your head, opt for some heat protection products and serums to keep from dehydrating your mid-lengths and ends.

I love you

In store we have a great variety of heat protecting products that not only protect from your hot tools but the sun and her rays as well. Unfortunately we don’t sell hats yet, but I may be onto something. Stay tuned and stay cool! If you really want to make my day, subscribe below!

Mexi-corn salad. Get it in ya!

This salad is so simple and so deelish! Never have leftovers…

  • 6 grilled corn cobs

  • 1 can of black beans

  • 1/2 clup sliced cherry tomatoes

  • 1/2 cup cubed queso

  • 1 tsp fresh cilantro (change to oregano if you’re like me)

  • 1 tbls lemon juice

Dressing

  • minced jalepeno

  • 1/4 cup sun dried tomato dressing

  • 1 tsp honey

All you need to do is put all the ingredients into a bowl, add the dressing and mix, mix, mix. I like to keep it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes so all the flavors can meld together.

Truth be told, you can put whatever you want to in a bowl and drizzle it with whatever you want! That’s the beauty of salad and the beauty of summer cooking!

SUMMERTIME IN MB Osborne Street

What are you thinking about getting into now that the summer is here?  I, for one, am an avid planner.  I have a few things lined up for the summer.

If I'm in town, I'll be checking out the festival on Canada Day on Osborne.  For August I'll be going to Stonewall for Quarry Days and driving out to Morden for the Corn and Apple Festival.

The Stonewall Kilnes

There's so much to do in Manitoba if you're into going for a bit of a drive.  There's a lot to see IN Winnipeg, but that much more to see OUTSIDE of Winnipeg.  It's funny how before having kids, I never really bothered with my province.  Now, I find that I'm looking for things to do to help us spend time together and help us get out to enjoy the nice weather we can have.

Clowning it up in Morden, Manitoba

At sometime I'll head out to Falcon Beach and at some point and we'll pitch a tent in the backyard.  I'm also into watching movies in the park (sans children).  I'm excited and ready!  If you have any suggestions of places I should check out, leave me a message!  I'll try to make an appearance!  That's the fresh perspective...
