I really love this song and as a musician, Marvin Gaye is one of my all-time faves.  This song was released in 1971.  That was many years before I was born and the issues he wrote about in this tune are things that concern me today.  It's funny how the real important things in life never really change...

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)

Oh, mercy mercy me Oh, things ain't what they used to be No, no Where did all the blue sky go? Poison is the wind that blows From the north, east, south, and sea Oh, mercy mercy me Oh, things ain't what they used to be No, no Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas Fish full of mercury Oh, mercy mercy me Oh, things ain't what they used to be No, no Radiation in the ground and in the sky Animals and birds who live nearby are dying Oh, mercy mercy me Oh, things ain't what they used to be What about this overcrowded land? How much more abuse from man can you stand?

-Marvin Gaye

Just a different way to look at the world we live in.  That's the fresh perspective...

In light of our new Esthitician and trying to equip her with the best products,  I've run into a few problems that have been making me think a lot about the performance of green products.

I wrote about ingredients and our certification on tfp in may, but I didn't cover performance.  Many of us want to use products that WORK even if they aren't great for us and now with the ability to research EVERYTHING,  we can decide to keep using harmful things or not.  I have decided for myself that maybe 'eco-beneficial' (made that one up) nail polishes aren't for me.

I've tried a few types and I am just about to give up.  It's just that because the products are staying directly on my nail bed I am a tad concerned.  I will see Renee in the next few days and she will give me a proper manicure and a proper polish and we will see.  I don't want to have to be painting my nails every two days because my water-based polish that cost me $20 doesn't stay on, whereas my $9 (3-free) bottle delivers for about 5 days before it begins to chip.

One of the company's, Scotch Naturals, added a wee disclaimer to their brand saying that when you make the switch it does take some time for your nails to adjust.  Keeping this in mind I keep on, but for those of you who have tried a 'better' polish and have noticed that it's performance was not as good as your 'regular' polish, be patient.  Take the time to think about what bothers you more and be happy with your decision even if it may mean sticking with your regular bottle.  There are other ways to eliminate toxic products from your life and if the polish you love is not the 'best', so be it!

I have not yet made up my mind.  That's the fresh perspective...

Colored Jeans It's the hot look for the summer.  Maybe you just went out and bought a pair, or you dug up an old shade, colored jeans are definitely a trend for summer 2012.

When shopping for your pair of colored jeans, try to keep in line with the type of clothes you currently have in your closet.   If it appears that your closet is full of greys, blacks, and endless neutrals, you might want to go with the pastel colors.  If you are one that likes to change it up all the time, you may want to go with something more vibrant.

Trends are a fun way to spice up your wardrobe.  Don't go nuts and buy seven different shades of colored jeans.  One, maybe two, but if you have a pair for everyday of the week you end up being a slave to the trends and spending way too much money trying to keep up.  They're called trends for a reason, they don't last... Priti NYC So as most of you know, we have a new esthetician and are now carrying this 3-free polish line out of New York called Priti NYC!  I've been using it and must give my opinion.

It doesn't stink as bad as other polishes (I know this because my husband complains when I paint my nails, and in the few times I've used it, he has said very little).  Even their soy-based polish remover has a decent scent.

This polish is available in a plethora of colors and really does the job on delivering on the shade-you-see-is-the-shade-you-get thing.  I know I'm very hard on my nails, which causes them to chip.  I don't use gloves to clean and I treat my nails like they are made of Teflon.  I polished my nails on Tuesday with LUNGWORT (a blu-ey color) and I did notice some chipping today...  I will be re-polishing this weekend and I feel like as long as I'm aware that I have polish on, maybe I'll be less harsh?  I find that the greener a product is, the less it usually performs (that is my own opinion and I'm sure some of you out there may disagree with me).

To say it again, for the month of June we are giving all you loyal peeps, and even new clients, a chance to experience our luxurious spa manicure or pedicure (complete with paraffin bath and Malie products) for the price of the regular mani/pedis.  Please call the salon for more info---204-414-9023 or 'like' us on facebook to get more details.  It's a great way to give Priti NYC polish a try.  Let us know what you think.

This polish is good, and new, and fresh, and taking Winnipeg by storm so....get ready!  That's the fresh perspective...

So this week was a very tough one for me.  It just never came together.  Everything's fine now, but in light of the ultra crappy week I have had, I would like to say something nice, light-hearted, and simple. Life's too short to let negative info hold you back and hold you down. Yesterday we had a wind-up banquet for the IIF and at the end my younger brother, Rhema, and I had some fun with the leftover balloons.  It was a beautiful day and we were out for a beautiful cause. So without further ado, I give you Rhema and balloons. When ever you feel down, just look up, the sky has an uncanny way of making things feel so much better.  That's the fresh perspective...

DermOrganic Hair Spray We haven't officially started carrying this product, but for an aerosol hair spray it's very good.  What amazed me yesterday was the lack of harsh aerosol-ish type smell that comes with canned products.

While doing a bit of research about this specific line, they mentioned that because stylists use way more products everyday than the average client, it's important that we make sure what we are breathing in isn't killing us softly and slowly.  I have never thought about the products I use daily on every single lady/man/child head that sits in my chair! Wow!

Anyways, this hair spray has many benefits for you peeps who are very concerned about what goes on and in your body.

  • DermOrganic products are all vegan.
  • DermOrganic products made without animal by-products and are never tested on animals.
  • DermOrganic products contain no sulfates, glycols, DEA, MEA, dyes or food coloring
  • DermOrganic products are Gluten-free
  • DermOrganicproducts contain no artificial preservatives. Paraben-free
  • DermOrganic products are made without salt, sodium chloride or other artificial thickeners
  • DermOrganic®uses Certified Organic Organic Argan Oil, Sunflower Seed Extract and Grape Seed Extract

If you are one who cares about the corporate responsibility of a trade, you'll be happy to know that the Argan Oil industry in Morocco is a women-only business. The women of southwest Morocco have banded together to help teach the cultivation of the Argan fruit and preserve the traditional cold-pressing of the Argan oil. The larger purpose of this initiative is to help elevate the socioeconomic status and improve literacy rates of the women of Morocco.

So if you do use any products that do have Argan oil in it, you are doing wonders for your hair and a wee bit more for a small group of individuals.  That's the fresh perspective...
