We finally pulled the trigger on a product line that's great for you, the earth and your hair!  Kevin Murphy will be available at Freshair Boutique this week!  Come and check it out!

It'll take some time for us to familiarize ourselves with this new line that includes shampoos, conditioners, and a whack of styling products but we are enthused and excited.  The next time you're in, ask how Kevin Murphy can work for you!

TREATMENTS We're officially on the countdown to the holidays.  Every morning I wake up and anticipate my attire for the day.  I usually end up donning layers, upon layers because I love the way a fall kit goes.  I love the boots, cardigans and toques.  I love the tights and the corduroy.  I love the light film of cold that lingers in the air.

I don't like the dryness though!  Ugh!  My lips, my feet, my hair and hands... It's a trade-off I guess and I just want to prepare you all.

Treatments are the best way to keep your hairs condition during these dryer times.  You can and should definitely be booking them with any service you receive from now till March.  You can also double up and get a take home deep treatment that you can do on your own every two weeks or so.  How many times you do a 'home treatment' is something you should discuss with your stylist.  He/She would know the type of stress your hair may be under and can recommend a good schedule.

In regards to your nails (hands) and feet, you'll need to chat with your esthetician and get a recommendation here as well.  I know for me, I was told to use a scrub on my cuticles and a heavier lotion for the soles of my dry feet.  My feet are dry ALL the time so I use heavy lotion always (just a little FYI).

Regular manicures and pedicures will eliminate a lot of the guess work related to the maintenance of your dry extremities.  Getting these types of services on a regular basis will keep your cuticles under control, your callouses soft and your feet moisturized...

Treatments are just that...a treat meant for something specific.  Don't sell yourself short! While you're running around this month preparing for the impending snow and large family gatherings, think of your body and all it's dry, cracked and frizzy parts... Take good care, that's the fresh perspective...

FYI- CHECK OUT OUR FACEBOOK FOR UPCOMING SPECIALS ON TREATMENTS, MANICURES AND PEDICURES.

Last night Schwarzkopf (a color company) romanced  a butt-load of hair stylists at their ASK Academy and then whisked us to a hair show at Kool Haus in Toronto.  It was BANANAS...  There was probably over 100 stylist/owners at the masquerade party and then about four to six hundred more stylists at the actual show!

'Twas fun to just let loose and be wined and dined.  I was hoping that the hair show would give me some sort of inspiration and maybe the new looks for spring would give me some ideas... No.  We got to the show late and missed a large part of Schwarzkopf's new spring collection.  We did get to see an entire hair competition though, and that was very interesting.  (my thoughts on hair competitions can be another post...)

I flew in for this event with 3 wonderful ladies and I'll say that meeting them and spending time with them was the highlight of my weekend.  We are all salon owner/stylists and between the four of us have over a hundred years of experience!!! If that doesn't inspire you then I don't know what can...

I love being around people in my profession and milking them for as much information as possible.  They were so accommodating to me and my million questions.  Two of them own salons in the city as well, and one is from Russell.  We all have different types of salons and clients but we all love what we do and we all agree on two key things:  it's all about the client and we're only as good as the staff we work with.

Thanks Buffie, Janet and Stephanie for making me feel so welcome and for making it such a fun night of laughs, hair and dancing!

Peace

Today I will be in a men's cutting class all day.  The experts will be trying to teach all of the stylists in attendance the new styles for men and the newest techniques.

I must say that I had a much larger male clientele when I used to work downtown.  Now that I'm located on Academy, I feel like I have little to no male clients.  The one's I do have are great, but I always wonder about all the others I lost...

Are men more likely to go to a stylist out of pure convenience?  Is it frowned upon for a man to follow his stylist? ~I guess a man can follow his stylist because I do have a few of my male clients from the first location I worked~ I know that a lot of my male clients in the past worked downtown, and came to see me on their lunches and break times.  Very convenient indeed...

I'm hoping this class leads me to a more knowledgeable place when it comes to cutting and styling men's hair.  Maybe the skills I'll acquire will also boost up my male clientele? Just so you know boys, it's okay to go to a hair salon over a barber and these days many salons are beginning to offer the same type of services as a barber.  Straight shaves and barbering techniques are coming to salons near you...if you're into that.

Salon Etiquette PART 2 ~ BRINGING PICTURES The last salon etiquette entry was about re-booking your appointment and this one is about pictures.

Why is it that clients are always apologizing to their stylist for bringing a picture?  I don't get it?  Whoever said it was a bad idea?  I think that somewhere down the line clients had began to feel that bringing a picture to your stylist was insulting to the stylist and his/her craft.

It seemed that the clients felt that the image would make me feel like I couldn't create something different.  Maybe I would feel too constrained with my 'vision' for my clients hair and my creative juices couldn't flow because the magazine clipping of Meg Ryan was causing me to have a tiny mental block...  Pshaw!  I love pictures!  I love magazine clippings that are worn out from years of carrying in a wallet.  Even more than that, I love actual photos that clients carry of the hairs from their past.  When they were young and wild and free...

Pictures allow me to really see what you see or what you would like to see on yourself.  Pictures allow me to see what YOUR definition of chocolate-brown is.  Pictures give me a small idea about how much time your really want to spend on your hair. Unless your stylist says to you, "DO NOT BRING ME A PICTURE. EVER!", please do.  We welcome them and only want to help you on your hair journey.  And as cheesy as that sounds, that's the fresh perspective...

Thanking You!

freshairboutique

Every year at Thanksgiving we all take the time to appreciate each other.  Even though not all of our readers are Canadian, I'm still saying thanks to you all.  Thanks to my great staff at the shop, thanks to my family, thanks to my friends...

Now that the season is changing all I can think of is the impending cold.  The thing about the cold is that it makes you want to be close.  The cold makes us want to cuddle and stay warm.  The cold makes us want to eat heavy foods that stick to our insides and heat us from within.  The cold reminds us of those moments  and time spent together, inside.

Thanksgiving is the beginning of a new and wonderful season and I am forever thankful that I have people in my life to spend this chilly time with.  I am also thankful that I did not lose anyone this year.   To all of you who have lost a loved one or family member, Thanksgiving is an amazing time to honor them and remember them by giving thanks for the life you currently have.

Peace
