I was out with a friend last night and she made me think about a few things.  I felt like I had a new perspective on the way that I live my life.  You see, she's been away for two years and her first impressions of me last night were odd.  Hearing someone say things about you or even hearing yourself say things you've only heard in your head are a bit startling and a touch troubling... I view myself in a way that I'm comfortable with and if someone else views me in a way I am NOT comfortable with??  Well, things got a little sticky, then stickier.  I realized some stuff and began to really gaze with a fresh perspective.  I gotta put the shoe on the other foot sometimes and swallow a bit of my pride.  I gotta be more empathetic to those who need it and patient with my little people.

Perspective.

What does that word even mean?

Is it a way of regarding situations and facts and judging their relative importance?  Is it just an accurate point of view or objectivity?   Is it just admitting to the simple truth that no matter what, we all have roles to play in this show called life?  I cannot ever know what it would be like to play you.  I can only play me and every once in a while if we really connect, we can view life a little differently.

That got a little deep...that was the fresh perspective...

I hope everyone had a restful weekend and accomplished all that they set out to do.   I re-did the storage closet on Saturday night and only had to get rid of one bag!  I've done very well in keeping it clean so it turned out to be an easy task.  I think cleaning it out every three months will keep it from getting to full...

I decided that for the month of November I'll try not to use the microwave at all.  I just want to see how realistic this is for me.   Not that there is anything wrong with using the microwave, but I had heard that a sick man was told not to use one , on doctors orders.  That got me to thinking, why do they (Dr's and such) only tell us what's bad to use AFTER we've gotten sick.  Why won't this guy tell his regular patients that their microwave could be harmful?

Now, maybe it isn't harmful at all and maybe when the first models were being used they were dangerous.  Now, not so much.  If you have any information about the pros/cons of using this machine, please let me know.  I will carry on with my 30 day challenge and hopefully if y'all hear anything or know anything please let me know!

Peace

P.S.  Can you believe this snow??  I mean, I knew it was coming but some how am now feeling very unprepared...

I thought of something...

Hey, ever since our Salon Secrets party I  started thinking about tutorials as we know it.  I don't think you need a salon party to find out how to style your own hair.   Whenever you come into our shop and you are getting a cut/style take the opportunity to ask your stylist the burning hair questions you have.  If you aren't going anywhere special after your appointment and want to know how to do something, turn the 'blow dry' part of your hair cut into a tutorial.  Makes sense no?

REduce, RE-use, REcycle...REvolution?

Had a great weekend... It was fast, fun and quite efficient.  The staff and I went to a mini seminar that gave us some new insight on how our industry works and I can't help to wonder where things will be in twenty years after everything is controlled by some sort of hand-held device...(that's for another post).

We had a bit of a debrief and got into a conversation about product consumption and what is really 'bad' for us.  Don't we have the right to know?  Shouldn't we be able to make better choices for ourselves if we want?  As individuals, don't we owe it to ourselves to find out as much as we can, about as much as we can, especially when usage/consumption of products can really affect us in the upcoming years?

There are so many questions to be asked and if there was 72 hours in a day maybe I would dedicate 2 of them to do a bit of research.   I could look into the manufacturing and ingredients of products that I use on my skin and foods and chemicals I ingest.  How much do these things matter to me and how much do they matter to you?  If my level of wanting more knowledge surpasses yours is that okay?  Am I still selling myself short if I don't research or stop using aerosols and polish?  What is acceptable and what is extreme?

I believe that all of us have the answers ourselves and it's up to each and every one of us to do what we think is needed in our own lives to feel like we can make a change.  I only want to bring awareness to everyone so that maybe we can have the honest conversation with ourselves as to what the revolution means to you?  Will you give up the use of your microwave in the name of healthier living?  Will you stop using hair products that are full of harmful chemicals?  Do you give up any type of food that is processed improperly?  Do you only patronize businesses that 'do more'?  What can we really do to start making ourselves feel like we are in control of the direction our lives are going in?

Take a stand for yourself and for your family.  Make a decision about the things that you can do and the things that you may be willing to live without.  It starts with you, and never feel like you don't do enough or feel ashamed because you love nail polish.  You can take a stand for yourself and the earth and whatever else that matters to you.  The revolution has begun.  It doesn't take much to be a part of it.  It just takes a decision.
