Found this picture today.  It's one of us at the holiday lunch I had at my place.  What's up with my face?  Anyways... We take so much for granted and I never want to forget how fortunate I am, and how much love is in my life.  Thanks girls for being the best co-workers!

Hey Boys...

freshairboutique

So today I decided that the boys don't get enough love...   I've noticed that most salons cater to women and will always get their business in one shape or another.  Manicures, pedicures, make-up, it's a no-brainer.  Why don't we focus in on the boys more often?  On the third Monday of every month I will do you males a solid.  I will post male related items only.  Hair, fashion, style...whatever may pertain to men in the beauty and fashion industry.  I have a soft spot in my heart for you guys and, what can I say, you can thank me later...

I'm always checking out hair-do's on chicks and shoes on women or handbags and accessories on gals, but every once in a while I will see an amazingly dressed man.  A man who knows his physique, and it's strengths and weaknesses...  They know what kind of hair they have and only use it for good... They have a way, a rhythm, a cadence that is so good.  I notice and I sometimes comment but not enough.  It's time to let you guys know what's up.

Just like us girls, the guys who seem to always knock it out of the park in style and fashion know themselves.  They know that they have really long legs and a very thick middle.  They know what parts of their body are flattering and what parts are not.  They are also not shy or ashamed to take risks.   If you have great style and a sharp sense for fashion (and get complemented on it often) then you are in control of your body image.  I know I have really big legs so wearing short shorts is borderline 'not flattering to my physique'.  Many women have this concept figured out and I think more men that we are aware of also have grasped the same concept.

Check in on Feb 20th for the next 'Hey Boys...' post.

the fresh perspective...

So my kid brother sent me this photo a while back and when I look at it I am in complete disbelief.  I am 32 and I look at my four-year old self and say, "four-year-old self, what is up?"  I look at my black little eyes and wonder if I even have a clue about my current state.  Ah.....my current state.  I don't even know what to say about my current state other than, it's very timely that I am having a perspective change in my life as the year turns from past to present.

2012 will be fantastic!  It will be riddled with good times, laughter, weddings, parties and much more.  It will be sprinkled with some failures and obviously some low points that may include tears.  All in all, I think that whatever this year dishes I will take it and eat it all.  I will accept and I will probably also deny.  I will work hard and then even a little harder.  I will push myself like I have never pushed myself before...wait.  That's a lie, I pushed myself ridiculously last year and so...no.  I will not push myself like I have never pushed before 'cause I've done that already...

What do you guys think of resolutions?  Do you just use them as a way to try to start the year off with some purpose or are your resolutions goals you always have for yourself?  What does your 2012 look like?  Do you not know? Maybe it's not your thing to have a bit of a plan going into things...  If you don't know, now is not a bad time to gaze at your upcoming year with a different outlook.

What am I saying to you guys?  I'm saying, thanks for following us this past year, thanks for reading my rants and such, thanks for deciding to keep up with Freshair Boutique and Praise Okwumabua.  All the best to you and yours this year!  That's the fresh perspective...

How is your hair doing?

The Holidays are just around the corner and all we can think about is everyone else.  Who's getting what? Who's coming over? Who's watching the children?  Who's driving?  It's a bit maddening...  With all the hustle and bustle I feel like we forget about ourselves.

All that being said, I am pretty booked up into the new year and so I guess not everyone has forgotten totally about themselves.  But I think there could be more to that?  Everyone goes nuts at this time of year to make sure that all is up to par in their lives including their hair.  You may be neglectful of your locks all year round and then, BOOM! December hits and all you can think of is how many functions you have to attend and how much money you'll be spending.  Then...your hair!  You book your services in December to be ready for the festivities of the holidays but how much do you really care about your hair?

We never think to ask ourselves how are hairs are doing.  December is a busy month and also the beginning of the cold, cold, season we call winter.  Your hair will need some TLC and with all your holiday shopping and planning, squeezing in a haircut is great but maybe what you should also be doing is a deep conditioning treatment a few times this season as well.  Also, maybe in the new year after all your parties, you can give your hair a hot tool break for a few days.

Just wanted to remind you of yet another thing to add to you to-do list, (like you don't have enough).  I hope that this week we can all find some time to give our hairs a little tender loving care.  To you and your hairs, have a great week!

Oh, all this stuff applies to man hairs as well...  Just because you don't use hot tools doesn't mean your hairs are doing great...I'm just saying...

Last Monday I heard some news that a young woman I knew had passed away.  She was 33 and 5 months pregnant.  She has been on my mind since I heard the news.  While I was online, I found a website that was dedicated to her.  It had images of her.  It had her biography.  It had a place to leave your condolences.

The tribute page featured an amazing poem written by her husband and allowed you to be able to leave a message or send your condolences to her family.  While reading the entries I was immediately saddened by the fact that she will never, ever, be able to read all the beautiful things that were said about her..."she had a beautiful heart", "warm countenance"...phrases that she will never hear.  She may have lived her entire life not really knowing how many people she affected or how many people held her in such high regard.  I guess that's why death is the way it is and why life is the way it is.  It is just what inevitably will happen to us all.

Why then do we not grasp the simplicity in the everyday things?  If we know that our lives are only lead once, and never know when it will end (but indeed it will) why can we not be more real?  Why can we not be more open?  Why can we not be more honest about how we feel and be honest about who matters most?  Deaths are a part of our lives, yet we live our days like we have years and years... We only have moments.  We only have the small instances that make the big picture seem so clear and present. We only have today. We only have now.

I want to live as many moments as I can with the least confrontation, negativity, drama etc. as possible.  I want to squeeze every last drop out of life and be free in my living.  I want to say, rest in peace Okwy.

P90X

So we're heading on to the end of our three-month workout and I couldn't help but dig up some old photos of 'the crew' this time last year.  Wow!  We all look so different! And our hairs?!  Even more so... We took these photos last year for our Freshair BOW-tique Christmas party and this year it's on Saturday.  It's a Freshair Flairmenco Christmas! We will be partaking in a Freshair Telenovela called San Carlos Nights...

That's all I'll say for now but when the shoot is over it would be fun to do a compare and contrast with our P90X crew...

Without further ado, P90X crew circa 2010-

So, let's give ourselves a round of applause for getting this far! In the new year we'll have a new plan and it'll be great.  2011 was great and 2012 will be even better... Bring it!

Peace

Also, everyone's hairs look real good.  Good job gals...
